Welcome to the UC San Diego Summer Academy for transfer students who plan to major in Mathematics. I am professor of Mathematics and my research areas are Combinatorics, Logic, and Theoretical Computer Science. I am also an adjunct professor in the CSE Department and the Rady School of Management and the Associate Dean of Physical Sciences. I will coordinate the Facets Seminar for Math Majors. We will discuss the eight majors offered by the Math Department and will have presentation for Math faculty about the kind of research that people do who teach courses in the various majors. I look forward to meeting all of you. |

Welcome to the Mathematics Academy! I'll be your instructor for Math 20E and Math 109. Besides teaching, some of my other mathematical interests include juggling and planimeters. You mean juggling is mathematical? Yes! Books and papers have been written on the mathematics of juggling. What's a planimeter? Look it up in your Funk and Wagnall's! Oh. Wait. That's what you would have done fifty years ago... Today you can just google it. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Whether or not you are a math major, feel free to come speak to me regarding academic plans, double major inquiries, and anything related to mathematics at UCSD. I look forward to meeting you this summer and hope you enjoy your early start with UCSD with the Summer Academy. |
